Every year, National Parents Day is celebrated on the fourth Sunday of July. In 1994, President Clinton signed this holiday into law to recognize, uplift and support every parent raising a child. While still a relatively new holiday, the custom of honoring our parents belongs to the ages. Hickory Farms has a few suggestions for making July 27 a memorable day for your family. Parents of young children know how much they adore your time and attention. Nothing delights kids more than to see you unplug your electronic devices and devote your focus on them. Making great childhood memories for them to reflect on in later years is a priceless gift only you can give. Have a spontaneous family picnic, even if it’s only in your backyard. Our Spiral Sliced HoneyGold Ham is a great ingredient to add in a hardy sandwich, or just put out a spread and pair it with some of our delicious fruit and cheeses. After the feast, engage your children by asking them to say or write down three things they really appreciate about you as a parent. Meanwhile, in a medium sauce pan, melt butter before whisking in some brown sugar until the mixture is smooth. Then, add corn syrup, vanilla, a little salt and a pinch of orange zest. In a separate bowl, mix three beaten eggs into the butter mixture. Finally, add your pecans to the crust, top with the rest of the ingredients and then bake. Pecan Cheesecake Pie If you’re looking …

Host a Patriotic Block Party for Independence Day

RU192010.jpg.rendition.largest

A good way to get to know your neighbors this Fourth of July is to host a patriotic block party, and Hickory Farms has a few entertaining tips to get you started! If your neighborhood has a community gathering spot – like a clubhouse, pool, or ball field – make that your central location. If not, each family can pitch in offerings from their grills and turn it into a long, meandering block of camaraderie. Decorations Red, white and blue decorations are a necessity, of course! And fly those flags high for our country’s 238th birthday. The beauty of a festive block party is its individuality, so make sure to do your own creative thing. Activities A neighborhood parade can be the day’s highlight and involve everyone from tots and teens to proud veterans. Organize a small parade with decorated bikes, wagons, 4-wheelers and golf carts interspersed with walking groups and maybe even a few horn players and drummers! You probably don’t need a city permit, but a larger parade involving vehicles might, so be sure to check first. Kids enjoy sack races and a good game of horseshoes. You can even get adults involved with a pick-up softball game before the fireworks begin. Refreshments …
