You don’t have to wait until Halloween to let the kids have a little fun with Frankenstein. Aug. 30 is Frankenstein Day, which is the birthday of Mary Wollenstone Shelley, the author of “Frankenstein.” Published in 1818, reading this book is a great excuse for an impromptu monster party for the kids. In celebration of Shelley’s classic novel, Hickory Farms has compiled a list of festive Frankenstein recipes you can make. Frankenstein Monster Toes Take your average sugar cookie recipe and give it a monster twist by adding just a few drops of green food coloring to the mix. Then, shape the dough into elongated “monster toes.” You can also dye some blanched almonds with red food coloring for your monster’s nails. This treat is squeal-worthy! Frankenstein Appetizer  Rectangles of our white Jalapeno & Cheddar cheese can make the perfect monster body when sprayed with green food coloring mist. Give Frankenstein some freaky features with creatively cut veggies, like cauliflower and baby carrots. Cut a sliver of our Summer Sausage for a ghoulish grin and Frankenstein is ready to party! Frankenstein & His Bride Fruit Snack This is a hair-raising, healthful snack that’s reminiscent of the movie “Young Frankenstein.” Halve a Granny Smith green apple from our Fresh …

For the perfect pairing, read this story while your children snack on sandwiches adorably arranged into a caterpillar shape.   Start by making six sandwiches on whole wheat bread, topping three with our Farmhouse Cheddar and three others with our HoneyGold Ham. Then, use a circular cookie cutter to create five shapes from each sandwich. Stacking each circle on its side, arrange the sandwich pieces in a swirling pattern that resembles a caterpillar’s body. Finish by creating a cute head out of a tomato with cheddar eyes and celery antennas. Green Eggs and Ham Told in rhymed verse, every kid enjoys Dr. Seuss. You can really bring this tale to life with these fun Green Eggs and Ham cups. In a sautee pan, combine shallots, spinach and a bit of cream, cooking until the cream thickens. Meanwhile, line muffin cups with slices of our HoneyGold Ham. Then, add a …
