When planning a picnic, start by setting the dress code. Make sure your guests are prepared to be outside for an hour or two. In colder climates, you may want to suggest that all of your guests wear snow pants and parkas. Be sure to also bring a few extra scarves and gloves along in case one of your guests doesn’t bundle up as much as they should.
Next, prepare the table. If you want to keep your party simple, just lay out a brightly colored blanket. However, if you’re looking for something a little more elaborate, try this winter picnic idea by making your own amazing snow table. Start by packing snow into a large garbage can and a couple of small containers. Allow the containers to sit out overnight and, on the day of your picnic, turn the containers over to release the snow. Use the larger mound of compacted snow for the table and the smaller ones for stools. Bring along a heat source for a cozy place to warm up. Outdoor stoves are a great option.
Start the meal with something hot to drink, such as hot chocolate or one of the selections from our Ceylon Tea Collection, accompanied by Peppermint Snow Mints. Serve the drinks in fun thermoses to keep everything nice and warm.
Finally, serve the winter picnic food! Keep your meal simple by creating a platter with slices of Our Signature Beef Summer Sausage, Farmhouse Cheddar and Olive Oil & Rosemary Crackers. For dessert, try Christmas Tree Pretzels and Dark Chocolate Peppermint Cookies.
With these easy picnic ideas and the Hickory Farms Pack and Go Picnic Tote, your friends and family will love being treated to a special winter picnic with their unique picnic basket holiday gift.
