This year, Share Our Strength’s Taste of the Nation® events will take place in 40 cities across the United States and Canada, with many of the cities celebrating 25 years of partnering with local top chefs and mixologists to raise money in the fight to end childhood hunger.
Hickory Farms is proud to support Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign in the fight against childhood hunger. And we are especially excited about an upcoming event that we can all take part in to help the cause. Share Our Strength’s Taste of the Nation Toledo is coming up on Sunday, April 21, 2013!
Taste of the Nation Toledo will take place at The Toledo Club and is set to be a fabulous evening of gourmet food and fun. This year’s featured chefs are Chef Nicholas Stefanelli of Washington, DC’s Bibiana and Chef William Skinner of Huron, Ohio’s North Bar. Chef Stefanelli’s studied at Maryland’s L’Academie de Cuisine and went on to accept an externship at Galileo restaurant in Washington, DC. He eventually earned the position of Chef de Partie of Laboratorio del Galileo and was responsible for creating the tasting menus. Since then, he has worked as a sous chef and chef de cuisine at other restaurants before becoming Executive Chef at Bibiana. He is especially known for his ability to reinvent regional Italian dishes with a modern flare.
Chef Skinner’s love for cooking began at a young age and by seventeen, he was cooking professionally. At age twenty, he became Executive Chef at Uptown Bistro in Louisville, Kentucky. A few years later, he began working at the Expo center, creating dishes for a variety of celebrities including Willie Nelson and Billy Bob Thorton. From there, Chef Skinner moved on to position of sous chef at the James Beard House, where he worked with Chef Darrin Shelley, who introduced him to the farm-to-table movement. Since then, Chef Skinner has worked in several other restaurants before becoming a chef at Bar North in Huron, Ohio, where he focuses on creating upscale dishes made from scratch with fresh, seasonal ingredients.
In addition to enjoying the delicacies created by the featured chefs and other participating restaurants, the evening will also feature entertainment from The Bridges Band. Best of all, 100 percent of ticket sales from Taste of the Nation Toledo will support Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign to ensure that no child in America grows up hungry. Local beneficiaries include Toledo GROWs, Toledo Day Nursery, Aurora House and the Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank.
Hickory Farms is excited to be the local presenting sponsor of Taste of the Nation Toledo. We hope you will consider joining us on April 21st.
